    Blog_GoneGirlEphemera I’m Consuming

One of the most important things an artist does is consume art, in whatever form. My bias leans toward books, film and comics – if only because I can take them in “on demand” in a life that’s often over-leveraged. So, I thought it would be fun from time to time to give an accounting of what I’m into at a given moment – assume everything is a rousing endorsement unless otherwise indicated!

  • Journal – 01/27/15

    Blog_SpiderWebDreamweaver

Been having some solid, crazy dreams lately, with vast story arcs and amazingly detailed imagery. Exactly the kind of stuff I can use to fill my creative pipeline when my waking mind fails me.

Of course, I lose them the second I wake, which is really pissing me off so I’m committing  to a formal capture activity to see if its possible to document this stuff before it goes poof. (more…)

  • Journal – 01/26/15

BigDuck(Note: “Journal” entries are basically my diary – coherence not guaranteed.)

I’ve got three basic things on my mind tonight:

    – Need to recommit to daily schedule

Kick-off second draft of “Hard Knox” novel

    – Decide if I’ve got a “Kobayashi Maru” work situation (more…)

  • Journal – 01/25/15

    SickSick.

It’s a weird, ambiguous word. It covers everything from what kills us to random perversions. I’m just being disgruntled because I had to burn vacation time to nurse my sneezing snuffling sniffling achy fever loser body. (more…)

  • Facebook Gibberish: 2

Gibberish2Haven’t updated this blog since Thanksgiving! Between ongoing corporate prostitution (which I’m thankful for, some pro’s can’t find work), finishing the last draft of Black Nouveau, standing up a Twitter presence I’m lucky I remember to tie my shoes. Whining aside, I’m committed to adding (even minimal) value and developing some sense of community online. (more…)

  • 5 Things I’m Thankful For

Thanksgiving_iconIt’s never a bad time to show some gratitude, and no better excuse than the dawn our annual Thanksgiving day here in the US. As I write this I’m pumped full of Flexeril and Ultram to mellow a lower back spasm, so I’m tempted to thank big pharma – but this is intended as a serious meditation on things I’m deeply thankful for and an encouragement to you, no matter what your current circumstance, to do the same. (more…)

  • Facebook Gibberish

FacebookGibberishThings pass in and out of my porous brain with such alarming rapidity, I often use Facebook as a digital notepad to catch some of it. Some are things I see that I want to capture for future use, some just musings I’m too ego-maniacal to keep to myself, mostly it’s just random gibberish. My hope, of course, is that it’s also entertaining and that you’ll get a smile or positive juju from it! (more…)

  • Vital Art: 5 (or more) Great Film Commentaries

01_Icon_CommentariesThis is a bit of a Vital Art cheat, film commentary being more like an art remora, but with the proliferation of streaming media I think fewer and fewer people are aware of (or have access to) these great audio insights into the business and art of film. (more…)

  • Transformation 90 – Prologue

Transformation90I looked in the mirror recently and decided I’m a hypocrite. I’ve been evangelizing both the philosophy and discipline associated with success (happiness & freedom) for more than four years now – my first formal goal was posted on Stickk in September 2010 – and I’ve made some great strides  (more…)

  • Objects: 4 Things I Love

IconWhat do you love? For the topic of “things I love” I’m taking “things that can love you back” off the table, that’s a whole different meditation. No, I’m talking about the things we encounter in life, things that trigger a response in us – art mostly – that not only linger long, but attach themselves in some way to our identity. Of course I can only speak for myself, but I hope it’ll trigger similar reflection in you – an excuse to remember deeply things you may have slipped into the greyer corridors of memory.
