(Read the overview for the basics of this 90 day push.)
3 for 3 This Week
All in all a good week, but I have room for huge improvements. My planning wasn’t solid, my weight scale’s battery died and I didn’t remedy that till Thursday and I got an unpleasant surprise at the first weigh-in. Had to scramble to make weight on Saturday, but with a long session at the gym was able to hit weight. Also my focus on the editing task wasn’t anywhere near as sharp as it needs to be, which I’ll attribute to making the transition back to my earlier wake-up time. Overall my mental toughness needs to improve.

90 Day Transition Kickoff
Journal – 3/11/15: Blind Spots & Dreams
Psych-Hack: The Paradox of “Fair”
Key Learnings:
- Huge uptick in attitude: can’t stress enough what a jolt hitting your goals is, particularly when the week didn’t start strong.
- Poor planning is a self-inflicted wound: I haven’t fully committed to being in bed by 7:30 and that makes for a heinous 3:30 wake-up. I must improve this.
- Food intake needs to be better: I expected my calorie restriction to give me better results, but I was sloppy with being precise with the every two-hour feedings, so didn’t give my body time to adapt.
- Sleep! As mentioned in #2, the bedtime is only important in ensuring I have a full night’s sleep, and I’ve been playing fast and loose with that.
Things to watch:
- Every-other-day weight checks: I can fluctuate wildly, kidding myself I can make weight on Saturdays. It’s a bad habit, and I need to be more mindful day to day.
- Hit the edits hard early: I let myself drift early last week, had to scramble late to make the goal. I know that if I have a strong Mon-Wed it bodes well for the week, just need to do it!
- Work on early attitude: It’s vital that I arise quickly, and in a positive frame of mind, this enables me to have great editing sessions, and great workouts.
So, the overall moral for this week is even when you put in sub-par effort, you can generate success. It’s not an approach I encourage, for you or for me, though it does tend to support the idea that “a weak something beats a strong nothing” every time.
