Time for Changeup
There’s no good reason I keep meeting these goals, but I’ll take a bad win over a good loss any day. That doesn’t mean I’m satisfied with my performance, and I need to keep my head clear and adjust what isn’t working to not only succeed, but get that elated feeling of leverage that’s eluding me.
Not to sound like a broken record, but I’m a rhythm guy, I feel most comfortable when I find the right groove then ride it. These past four weeks have felt like swimming upstream, and weirdly I think it’s because these goals aren’t that hard. I chose to do goals that; a. needed to get done and b. were manageable. And I’m starting to think I leaned too far in the manageable direction.
The takeaway from this is: if I didn’t have goals, I wouldn’t know at what level I was performing. Life led only in relationship to “good feeling or bad feeling” tends to create an equilibrium, but giving no sensation of accomplishment. By nature I’m a competitive person, I like the feeling of going that one step further, just because I can (and maybe thought I couldn’t).
So, this week I’m going to push, just for the hell of pushing, and fight to get that energy that comes from inner competition back. I’ll let you know how it goes next Sunday!

90 Day Transition: Week 3 Report
Key Learnings:
- Don’t ignore your feelings: While I’m meeting my goals, it’s pretty much the bare minimum, and it’s not giving me the psychological boost I tend to get from this stuff. My feeling is I’m not challenging myself enough, and I need to lean into that feeling in this coming week and push myself.
- Play more with approach: I have a bad habit of assuming previously successful strategies are, by default, “good” strategies. As opposed to the truth, which is they were good when they worked. All of my goals revolve around things I like to do, and when it feels like “work” I need to play around till it starts feeling like play again.
Things to watch:
- Up intensity of workouts: I’m doing the minimum, I’ve been kidding myself that it’s enough, time to go deeper into my physical self. Been too focused on getting smaller, need to get stronger.
- Think Creatively: Things like work, commuting and relaxation need to be more fun – and that’s something I can make happen.
- Start Strong: The past two-week I didn’t get rolling till Wednesday, and that’s got to stop, Will hop out of bed in the morning, and hit the week hard from the jump.
In summary, another “meh” week, made my goals but didn’t get the sense of victory I crave. Will up the intensity this week, tap into the natural aggression I tend to suppress, and above all have some fun.
